Co-founder/Coffee Shop Committee - Operations Advisor
Dan is pouring his heart and 25 years of hotel and restaurant management experience into opening Anastasia and Katie’s Coffee Shop & Cafe, the first business venture of Mi Work Matters. It is his dream and number one priority to give people with different abilities, like his daughter Katie, meaningful employment opportunities.
In 2006, Dan’s daughter Katie was born with Down syndrome. It was at that time he realized the importance of belonging to support organizations on behalf of his daughter. He has been a member of the ARC of Michigan and the National Down Syndrome Society. Most recently, he served three years on the Down Syndrome Guild of Southeast Michigan's board of directors.
Dan Duffy knows that his daughter Katie matters. He knows that all individuals with different abilities matter. Katie was born with an extra chromosome. He knew that day at the hospital, when he and his wife heard the diagnosis of Down syndrome, that his life would change forever. That is the day that he made the commitment to make sure that Katie and others like her would be treated with dignity and respect in all aspects of their lives. That their work would matter. That their dreams would matter. That they would matter.
By being a part of Mi Work Matters and Anastasia and Katie’s Coffee Shop, he is able to make sure that he is doing his part to give everyone with different abilities an opportunity to make their work matter. He wants to help them reach their potential and be a conduit to helping them achieve meaningful employment.
Dan Duffy graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Business. He has spent over 25 years in the hospitality industry managing restaurants and hotels throughout the United States.
